The Brave Kano
In the dense Gir forest… lived a fierce leopard. A creature of fear… death itself!
But one day, the leopard grew tired.
“This same forest… same bushes… same lions and hills. These deer and streams… I’m bored!”
So, he decided to leave the jungle… and see a new world.

He stepped beyond the forest… reached the edge of a hill…
And saw something new — a beautiful village!
“Aha!” he thought. “This place looks fun! Let’s enjoy!”

It was winter — bitter cold. Everyone was bundled up in warm clothes.
The leopard loved it — away from the forest, among sweet sugarcane fields and soft humans.
He entered the sugarcane fields, enjoying himself…

But for the villagers — it was disaster!
People screamed. They ran from the fields.
The village trembled with fear.

“What do we do now?! The leopard is here!”
No one dared fetch water from the well.
The sugarcane began to dry.
Who would go out?
What if the leopard attacked!?
That’s when one young boy stood up.
“I’ll go,” he said.
“I’ll chase the leopard away.
Give me a stick — I’ll drive him out.
I’ll wake up the whole village!”

His name was Kano.
Whether you believed him or not, Kano was ready.
Stick in one hand, torch in the other, he stepped into the field — alone.
It was a dark night.
Kano carefully listened…
Rustle… rustle…
He heard it.
Two glowing eyes flashed in the dark.

Kano stayed calm.
The leopard slowly crept closer… tongue flicking… eyes locked.
Kano walked backward… slowly…
Behind him… was a deep well.
Suddenly — the leopard leapt!
Kano raised his stick to block —
But missed his step —
And fell into the well!
Thud! Thud!
His torch and stick slipped from his hands.
The well was deep and lonely.
On its edges, roots of a peepal tree hung down.
As Kano was falling —
He caught a hanging root!
He dangled mid-air, holding on tight.
He steadied himself on a small ledge near the well wall.

Then — from below —
Hiss… huff… hisss…!
He looked down.
A snake!
“Oh no… above, a leopard… below, a snake!
How do I get out of this?!”
The whole night, Kano clung to the tree roots, suspended in the well.
The leopard sat quietly above… waiting.
Morning came.
The sun rose.
Kano’s arms ached.
The hissing below had stopped.
He slowly pulled himself up… root by root… inch by inch.
He reached the well’s edge… peeked over.

There it was — the leopard!
Still waiting!
As Kano’s head rose, the leopard jumped —
Kano instantly ducked back into the well —
Thud!
The leopard missed —
And fell straight into the well!

Kano quickly climbed out —
The sun was now shining bright.
The villagers gathered around.
“Bravo, Kano! Bravo!” they shouted.
The leopard was still inside the well.
Forest officers were called.
They trapped the leopard in a cage…
And returned him to the Gir jungle.

And as for Kano…
He became the hero of the village.
