The Opportunistic Bats
Once, the animals and the birds started fighting over a small matter. The fight became bigger and bigger. Soon, they decided to go to war!
All the animals gathered to fight.
The birds also got ready to fight.

But the bats were confused.
They thought,
“We have wings like birds, but we also have teeth like animals.
Which side should we join?”

Then they said,
“Let’s wait and watch. Whoever starts winning — we will go to that side.”
So, the war began.
First, the animals were winning.
The bats quickly joined the animals.

Later, the birds started winning.
Now the bats changed sides and started helping the birds!

Finally, the birds won the war.
The bats came to the birds and said,
“Hooray! We are with you!”
But the birds said,
“No! You were not with us from the start. Go away!”

The bats felt sad. They went to the animals.
But the animals said,
“We saw you helping the birds. You are not one of us!”

Now the bats had no one.
They were not accepted by the animals or the birds.
So, the bats hide in trees and caves.
They started flying only at night.
Even today, bats are not seen during the day.
And they are not counted as birds or animals.
